Europe Office of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung
The FES is the oldest political foundation in Germany. It is named after Friedrich Ebert, the first democratically elected social-democratic President. As party-affiliated foundation, it bases its work on the fundamental values of social democracy: freedom, justice and solidarity. As a non-profit institution, it operates independently and wants to promote the pluralistic society dialogue on the policy challenges of the present.
The central task of the FES is political education and counselling. It imparts basic knowledge about policies and allows access to current debates. As an international think tank, it offers impetus for a policy of social democracy – not only in Germany but worldwide.
